Women & Constitution: Review & Way Forward

MAG with support of SPCBN/UNDP organized a one day-interaction on Women & Constitution: Review & Way Forward on the 24th March 2015.

 

CA Member, Leaders of the political parties and its wings, media, civil society members made active participation in the interaction program for bringing out the issues of women from the grass-root to the decision-making level.  Everyone urged the political leaders and the decision makers in strengthening the role of women in state and policy making by promoting their participation in every level of state-making.

 

Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Leader UCPN-Maoist stressed on ensuring women’s access to justice for empowering them and bringing forward.  He stressed on the fact that whilst Nepalese women today are struggling for their identity and rights, the state and the leader should focus on drafting inclusive constitution guranteeing the equal rights and access for a women.

 

Presented CA members of different political parties also stated that as promised and declared in their manifestos, the political party leaders are hesitant to deliver equal opportunities for women leaders of their parties.  It is high time that the leaders should realize and develop a common consensus that a development process does not complete and sustain without women’s participation.

 

Similarly, noted speakers from political parties as Hon. Ramesh Lekhak (Nepali Congress), Meena Pandey (Chair of Inter-Party Women Alliance), Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal (CPN-UML) made their remarks over the women issues and the way forward.  They all stressed on developing strategy for encouraging women and their participation through incorporating inclusive policy in the upcoming constitution.
