MAG prepared a GESI disaggregated database of journalists based on desk research using FNJ member lists as reference. The Federation of Nepalese journalists (FNJ) is a professional representative body of more than 8,000 media persons working in all areas of modern media- prints, electronic and online across the country.
Based on the membership data obtained from 28 FNJ branches including Kathmandu FNJ, only 17 % of journalists are women with 83 % male. Majority of journalist belong to Brahmin-Chhetri caste i.e., 71 % while Janatajati, Madhesi and Dalit make up 18%, 8% and 3% respectively. Also, majority of women journalists belong to Brahmin Chhetri caste.
