Interaction Program on Citizenship Issue in the Constitution 18th August 2015, Kathmandu

Media Advocacy Group (MAG) has been advocating ensuring citizenship and women’s rights since the beginning of the constitution making process. MAG with the support of UNDP/SPCBN organized one-day interaction program on August 18, 2015, with the CA members, rights activists and media to discuss the citizenship provisions in the constitution. A total of 38 participants from political parties and media, and social activists participated in the interaction program that was held to discourse some contentious and unclear issues related to the citizenship issuance.

The objective of the program was to analyze and discuss the Citizenship issues in the Constitution and to collect the views of panelists and recent development in the Constituent Assembly regarding citizenship issue. MAG has organized various interaction programs to end gender based discriminatory provision in citizenship and to sensitize general public in mainly two concerns in citizenship – issue of citizenship in the name of mother and equal provision for both men and women for acquiring the citizenship by decent.
