Women’s participation in Nepali politics has seen notable growth, with women now comprising 33% of the Federal Parliament, National Assembly, and provincial assemblies, and approximately 42% at the local level. Despite this progress, media coverage of female politicians remains disproportionately low, with only about 6% of coverage devoted to them, according to a recent Media Advocacy Group (MAG) monitoring report. To address this disparity and the growing challenge of cyber security, the Media Advocacy Group, in partnership with the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, organized a Digital and Media Literacy Program for Women Politicians on July 2, 2024, at Yak Palace, Pulchowk, Lalitpur. This program aimed to empower women politicians by enhancing their digital and media literacy skills, thereby improving their ability to engage with constituents, advocate for policies, and increase their presence in public discourse. By bridging critical gaps in digital access and media literacy, the initiative sought to promote more inclusive political participation and leadership among women. The program focused on equipping participants with essential knowledge in social media, digital campaigns, and online communication strategies, reinforcing the importance of digital literacy in strengthening their political influence and advocacy efforts.
